Keynote Speakers
Below the confirmed keynote speakers at EESD 2016 are listed. In the coming months more details (e.g. the exact title of their contribution) will be added. It is possible that other keynote speakers will complete the list.
Sunday, 4 September 2016 - Welcome ceremony at the City Hall
After a welcome address by the Alderman for the Environment of the City of Bruges and by the Conference Coordinator, the winners of the price for the best paper at EESD 2015 (Vancouver, Canada, June 2015) will address the audience: Prof. Richard F. Vaz and Prof. Scott Jiusto from the Department for Interdisciplinary and Global Studies at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Massachusetts, United States of America).
Monday, 5 September 2016 (am) – Opening ceremony
The key theme for the 8th international conference on ‘Engineering Education for Sustainable Development’ is ‘Building a circular economy together.’ The keynote speakers for the Opening ceremony are:
- Prof. Nicholas A. Ashford, Professor of Technology and Policy at the Engineering Systems Division of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (United States of America). He will address the major challenges to Engineering Education For Sustainable Development (EESD).
- Prof. David Peck, Professor of Industrial Design Engineering at Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands), working closely together with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. He will focus on building a circular economy and analyse the implications for engineering education.
Monday, 5 September 2016 (pm) - Debate ‘Beyond the triple helix’
At the conference – under the heading of ‘Beyond the triple helix’ (i.e. beyond an interaction between academia, industry and public authorities) - stakeholders will be involved in a debate to formulate the expectations towards engineers and their education. The debate will be introduced by the keynote speaker:
- Prof. Walter Stahel, Founder-director of The Product-Life Institute Geneva (Switserland). He underlines that including the technical and economic knowledge of the circular economy in education at all levels is key to making this knowledge available to business, in particular any SME. The last couple of months he has made a critical analysis of the EU Circular Economy Package.
The stakeholders on the panel are representatives of the European Commission, CSR Europe, EEB, ETUC, etc.
Wednesday, 7 September 2016 (am) – Plenary Session
At the conference we will have the opportunity to welcome Prof. Aurélien Decamps who is Assistant Professor at KEDGE Business School & Academic Coordinator of the SULITEST. He will give a keynote on ‘The SULITEST : a Global Assessment of Sustainability Literacy in Higher Education’.
